BCCI’s apex council will set norms for victory celebrations.

New Delhi: Following a deadly stampede at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will discuss establishing standardized guidelines for victory celebrations at its upcoming Apex Council meeting. This will be a key agenda item at the 28th meeting, scheduled for Saturday.

A stampede at a stadium last Wednesday resulted in 11 deaths and 56 injuries. The incident occurred when approximately 250,000 fans gathered to see popular performers.

The BCCI admitted room for improvement in managing the celebrations and will formally discuss the issue at an upcoming meeting.

“The need of formulation of norms for IPL victory celebration will be discussed during the meeting,” a BCCI source said.

The cricket board will discuss venue selections for the India-New Zealand series and review its age verification program, designed to prevent underage participation in youth cricket.

Karimnagar District Cricket Association president V. Agam Rao’s April 2025 complaint alleging financial mismanagement in Telangana’s cricket infrastructure development is expected to be addressed.

Following a complaint, the BCCI Ombudsman, Justice Arun Mishra, instructed the Apex Council to address the issue. This matter will be reviewed at their Saturday meeting.

The meeting agenda also includes reviewing the BCCI’s player and team official code of conduct, the tournament allowance policy for BCCI staff, the upcoming 2025-26 domestic season, and umpire and match referee training programs.
