New Delhi: Rohit Sharma has revived his career after successfully leading India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy. Earlier, his form had taken a severe hit, reaching a low point when he opted out of the fifth Test against Australia following a series of poor performances in India’s disappointing defeats to New Zealand and Australia. Concerns over his Test future grew, with uncertainty looming over his place in the squad. However, according to a report in The Indian Express, Rohit is determined to continue his Test career, and the board is keen on him leading the team in the upcoming Test series against England.

“He has shown what he can do. Every stakeholder feels that he is the right candidate to lead the Indian side for the tour of England. Rohit too has expressed his eagerness to keep playing red-ball cricket,” a source told The Indian Express.

After back-to-back defeats to New Zealand and Australia, coupled with his struggles with the bat, reports suggested that the ICC Champions Trophy could be a defining moment in Rohit Sharma’s career. However, the Indian skipper showed no signs of pressure and staged a remarkable comeback.

Rohit provided India with explosive starts in every game, setting the tone early. In the final, he led from the front with a match-winning 76, top-scoring for India against New Zealand and securing the coveted title. Following the triumph, he dismissed all speculation about his retirement, reaffirming his commitment to Indian cricket.

“Right now, I’m playing really well, and I’m enjoying everything I’m doing with this team, and the team is enjoying my company as well, which is nice. I can’t really say 2027, because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open,” he told the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“It’s something that really makes me happy. There are a lot of things involved, there’s so much pride, and the way this team is playing, I don’t want to leave this team. The way we are playing at this point in time, there is so much joy, so much fun to play with all of them,” he told.

Rohit Sharma dismissed concerns about his form after opting out of the Sydney Test, emphasizing that tough phases don’t last forever. Speaking to Star Sports, he said, “There is no guarantee that runs won’t come in five or two months. I have seen a lot of cricket—life changes every second, every minute, every day. I have confidence in myself that things can turn around, but at the same time, I have to be realistic as well.” His words reflected a balanced mindset, acknowledging challenges while maintaining faith in his abilities.
