Joe Root achieves a historic milestone after the WTC Final 2025, becoming the first player to finish as the top run-scorer in multiple World Test Championship cycles.

New Delhi: Even though the England team did not reach the final of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC), Joe Root has achieved a historic feat in this tournament. South Africa defeated Australia in the final at Lord’s to win the WTC title for the first time. With this victory all three editions of the WTC had different winners – New Zealand (2019-21), Australia (2021-23), and now South Africa (2023-25).

WTC 2023-25: Joe Root highest-scoring players

Joe Root scored 1968 runs at an average of 54.66 in 22 matches in the 2023-25 ​​WTC cycle, including 7 centuries. He won the title of top scorer in the season. Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins was the highest wicket-taker in this cycle. He took 80 wickets in 18 matches.
