During the IPL 2025 coin toss for the RCB versus CSK match, MS Dhoni and Ravi Shastri engaged in a jovial exchange.

New Delhi: During the toss of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match, CSK captain MS Dhoni playfully deflected a question from former India coach Ravi Shastri regarding CSK’s strategy to counter RCB’s powerful opening batting. Dhoni chose to field first after winning the toss, but declined to reveal his team’s game plan.
“Let it be plans, Ravi bhai,” Dhoni said during the toss.
RCB’s opening batsmen displayed aggressive batting. Jacob Bethell, in only his second IPL game, scored a rapid 55 runs from 33 balls. Virat Kohli also performed strongly, scoring 62 runs from 33 balls.
RCB’s strong powerplay performance, spearheaded by Kohli and Bethell, yielded 71 runs, a total CSK’s bowling attack couldn’t effectively contain.
Chennai Super Kings’ fast bowlers, Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj, struggled to contain Salt and Bethell during the powerplay overs, conceding a significant number of runs.
“We want to make the most of the last four games we have got. Try to look into next year and which individual will fit into what role. Yes we want to win games but getting the most of the four games is important,” said Dhoni, speaking to Shastri at the toss.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) experienced an exceptionally poor 2025 IPL season, winning only two of their first ten games. This poor performance led to MS Dhoni’s appointment as captain mid-season, following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s elbow injury.
The yellow team’s batting performance has been underwhelming, with several key players, including Rahul Tripathi, Vijay Shankar, Deepak Hooda, and Ravindra Jadeja, inconsistent in their contributions.
Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, who joined Chennai Super Kings mid-season, have demonstrated promising batting skills. The franchise may retain them and build future teams around them.
Noor Ahmad and Khaleel Ahmed have been the most successful bowlers for their franchise this season, each achieving over 12 wickets. In contrast, Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance has been underwhelming, potentially leading to his release despite his high purchase price of Rs 9.75 crore.
