Despite Chennai Super Kings’ loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2025, Ravindra Jadeja achieved a special feat, hitting the longest six of the season at 109 meters.
New Delhi: Already eliminated from the tournament, Chennai Super Kings suffered another disappointing defeat in their IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday. Playing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, CSK fought hard in their chase of 214 runs. Ayush Mhatre (94) and Ravindra Jadeja (77\*) combined for a crucial 114-run partnership, but RCB quickly regained control, restricting CSK to 211/5. Despite the loss, Jadeja impressed with the longest six of the season.
In the 17th over of CSK’s chase, Ravindra Jadeja unleashed a brutal attack on Lungi Ngidi, smashing a full-toss delivery into the deep square-leg region for a colossal six. The distance of the six was measured at an impressive 109 meters, marking the longest of the season.
With this massive 109-meter six, Jadeja surpassed the previous record set by Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen, who had earlier hit a 107-meter six against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
Chasing a target of 214, CSK managed to score 211/5 in their 20 overs. Ayush Mhatre played a brilliant knock, scoring 94 off 48 balls, which included five sixes and nine fours. He shared a crucial 114-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 77 from 45 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes. Despite their efforts, CSK fell short of the target.
For RCB, Lungi Ngidi was the standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 3/30. Earlier, RCB’s top-order performed brilliantly, with half-centuries from Jacob Bethell (55), Virat Kohli (62), and Romario Shepherd, who remained unbeaten on 53. Their efforts helped RCB set a challenging total of 213/5.
“Today I had my opportunity. I was waiting for a long time, finally got out to bat, wanted to give the team a good finish,” said RCB all-rounder Romario Shepherd after their victory.
“(On where the power comes from) My base and the way I swing. Timmy was telling me to just hold my shape and swing from there as the ball was holding. The first couple of games we were failing as a batting unit,” he added.
“DK took us and gave us specific work, and it paid off today. I wasn’t thinking of a score, I was thinking ball by ball and trying to hit each ball for four or six. When I walked in, Timmy told me to relax and try, and I did exactly that. (On if he is a bowler or a batter) I try to keep it 50-50, but today it didn’t come off with the ball, I continued to struggle with the ball,” Shepherd concluded.
