Punjab’s disciplined bowling limited the five-time champions to 184/7. Arya (63) and Inglis (73) then led Punjab to victory, achieving a 109-run partnership and securing a win with nine balls remaining. Captain Iyer hit the winning runs. Regardless of the outcome of the final league match, Punjab is guaranteed a top-two finish.
Following the game, Iyer praised both the support staff for their excellent player management throughout the tournament and the players themselves for their consistent ability to overcome challenging situations.
“Every individual stepped up at the right time. Starting from game one, we’ve been in the mindset of wanting to win despite the situation. We’ve had players putting their hands up when we were in the dumps. Kudos to support staff and management too. Ricky has been fantastic with player management, it’s important for me to get trust too. That happened with the wins early on. Had conversations with them too. You have to maintain good relationships throughout. I feel the dressing room has been top notch throughout.”
Punjab Kings are projected to play either Gujarat Titans or Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming qualifying matches.
