Prior to this game, Suryakumar was tied with Robin Uthappa, who had notched 25+ runs in 10 straight innings during Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning season in 2014. Following them are Steve Smith (2016-17), Sai Sudharsan (2023-24), and Virat Kohli (2024-25), each with nine consecutive innings of 25 or more runs.

On the final delivery of the 16th over, Maheesh Theekshana sent down a low full toss, and the MI star adjusted his stance, dipped slightly to his right, and expertly scooped the ball over deep fine leg for a boundary.
His smallest contribution with the bat this IPL season came against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17, where he managed 26 runs. Prior to the clash with Rajasthan Royals, he had already registered three explosive fifties, all at an impressive strike rate of 171.15. This outstanding run of form highlights the consistency and reliability of India’s T20 skipper in the game’s shortest format.
He stayed not out on 48 off 23 balls, matching the score of his batting partner Hardik Pandya. The duo combined to propel the total to 217 for 2 by the end of the first innings.
“It was important for us to get off to a good start,” Rohit Sharma said in the mid-innings break, as quoted by Cricbuzz. “After a couple of overs, we thought the ball was coming on nicely. We wanted to hit straight. It was kind of skiddy, the wicket. The only thing I was worried about [in that review] was if it was pitching in line or not… and it came off. [Rickelton] works really hard on his game… If he continues to bat like that, it augurs really well for us. It’s very important for us to understand the pitch. I know one side is short, and the other side is big. The guys are pretty experienced in what they do. Hopefully, we can defend that target; it’s a very good score. If you look at our batting line-up, a lot of these guys haven’t batted for a few games now,” he added.
