Pat Cummins-led Australian side will look to create history as they take on South Africa in the World Test Championships (WTC) 2025 final beginning at Lord’s in London on Wednesday. Australia are aiming to become the first team to defend their title and first to win the WTC crown two times.
Team India were the finalist in the last two WTC final but they lost to New Zealand and Australia respectively. South Africa, on the other hand, are making their maiden appearance in the WTC final – having booked their spot on the back of six successive Test wins.
Australians will have a new-look opening pair with Marnus Labuschagne set to partner Usman Khawaja at the top, in place of young Sam Konstas. With all-rounder Cameron Green regaining his fitness, he will take Labuschagne’s number three position. Pacer Scott Boland will be missing out on his second successive WTC final appearance with the Aussies choosing Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to partner captain Cummins.
Temba Bavuma’s SA team, on the other hand, have decided to pick Lungi Ngidi over Dane Paterson although the RCB pacer has only made a couple of appearance in Test cricket in the last one year due to injury. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder will be batting at the unfamiliar number three position for the Proteas.
