Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Sushila Karki on assuming office as the interim Prime Minister of Nepal, saying that her appointment is “a shining example of women empowerment”. “I want to congratulate Karki on behalf of 140 crore Indians,” PM Modi said while addressing a public rally in Manipur capital Imphal.
The Prime Minister hailed the former Chief Justice’s appointment as Nepal interim PM as a “shining example of women empowerment”, and expressed confidence that the distinguished ex-jurist will pave the way for peace and prosperity in the neighboring country after the recent Gen-Z protests changed its political landscape.
“Sushila Karki occupying the top post of that country is an example of women’s empowerment. I am confident that she will pave the way for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nepal,” Modi said.

“I am very much impressed with Indian leaders. My Indian friends treat me as a sister. Main Modi ji ko namaskar karti hoon (I have huge respect for PM Modi). I have a good impression of Modi j,” the 73-year-old jurist was quoted as saying by CNN-News18.
Karki has often talked about her time at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, where she earned her Master’s degree in political science in 1975.

An eminent jurist, Sushila Karki began her practice as a lawyer, but gradually rose through the ranks to become a regional judge, and ultimately the country’s only woman Chief Justice.
On Friday night, Sushila Karki scripted history when she was sworn-in as Nepal’s first woman prime minister to lead an interim government, ending days political uncertainty in the Himalayan after former PM KP Sharma Oli was forced to quit in the face of a nationwide agitation triggered by a social media ban.
The former chief justice, known for her integrity and plain-speaking, was chosen to lead the interim government after a meeting between President Paudel, Nepal’s top military brass, and the youth protesters, who spearheaded the anti-government protests.
