New Delhi: Celebrations erupted Saturday night across cricket-crazy India as its team won the T20 World Cup, with several fans flooding the streets carrying the tricolour in their hands. Chants of ‘India, India’ echoed through the air as crowds gathered in city centers across the country to cheer for the “Men in Blue.” Following India’s spectacular victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, political leaders from across the nation extended their heartfelt congratulations to the team.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Men in Blue for their monumental title win. Following the win, PM Modi took to X and delivered a video message, saying, “Congratulations on behalf of the whole nation to Team India for this grand victory. Today, 1.40 crore Indians are proud because of your wonderful performance. You all won the World Cup, but in all villages, streets and communities of India, you won the hearts of our countrymen. This win will be remembered for a very special reason. There were so many teams, but yet India was undefeated. This is not a small feat. You played every ball delivered by the greats of the game and kept winning. This undefeated run boosted your morale and kept the tournament entertaining. A lot of congratulations from my side.”

President Draupadi Murmu sent her heartiest congratulations to the Men in Blue and called the victory as “extraordinary.”
Sharing a post on X(previously Twitter), the President wrote, “My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the T20 World Cup. With the never-say-die spirit, the team sailed through difficult situations and demonstrated outstanding skills throughout the tournament. It was an extraordinary victory in the final match. Social media was inundated with congratulatory messages and images of celebratory scenes as the star-studded Indian team outwitted South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting final that went down to the wire. While congratulating the Indian cricket team, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote, “What an incredible victory and achievement by Indian cricket team! Extending his heartiest congratulations to the “World’s Champion”, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister took to X and wrote, “Invincible India! Hearty congratulations to the people of India! Congratulations to the ‘World Champion’ Indian Cricket Team! Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Chouhan on Saturday congratulated the Indian cricket team for winning the T20 World Cup.
“The Indian cricket team has proved its superiority. With hard work and constant practice, it is easy to achieve big goals. That’s what the Indian cricket team did,” Yadav said after Team India won the final against South Africa. The captain of the Indian cricket team, the players and the selectors deserve laurels for this victory, he further said.
Former Union Minister and BJP leader Anurag Thakur remarked that the match was a true World Cup final, captivating audiences from the first ball to the last. “Whattttta match! In a nail-biting and thrilling match, India squashed a major victory to secure their second ICC T20 World Cup title by beating South Africa by seven runs at Barbados on Saturday. South Africa have once again left heartbroken as they are yet to win an ICC title. Meanwhile, India has ended its 11-year long ICC trophy drought, winning their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013. India is the first team to have captured the title undefeated.
