IMD Weather Update: Heavy Rains Likely in Delhi-NCR Today, Orange Alert Issued For Haryana, UP

IMD Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in Delhi-NCR today. The weather department has also said similar conditions will prevail over the region for the next four days. The region will see moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds between 30 to 40 kmph.

The weather pattern likely to extend to various regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

In detail, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience significant rainfall on June 29th and 30th, while Punjab is forecasted to have heavy rainfall on June 30th and July 1st. The IMD further anticipates heavy rainfall for Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi from June 29th to July 1st.

Uttar Pradesh is slated to witness isolated very heavy rainfall between June 29th and 30th, with East Rajasthan expected to encounter this weather pattern from June 29th to July 2nd. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh is likely to see heavy rainfall on June 29th. Additionally, Odisha is predicted to experience heavy rainfall from June 29th to 30th.

The regional meteorological centre in New Delhi forecast for Sunday said, “Generally cloudy sky. Moderate to heavy rain/thunderstorm. accompanied with gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph).” The maximum temperature on Sunday is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius.

According to the latest weather bulletin from the regional met centre, the ‘orange alert’ for heavy rain is expected to persist until July 3 in the national capital.

The forecast for July 1 and 2 said, “Generally cloudy sky. Heavy rain/thunderstorm.” The maximum temperature is expected to be 30 degrees Celsius on July 1, and it will drop to 29 degrees Celsius on July 2 and 3.

Delhi Rains

Torrential rains lashed several parts of north India on Saturday with the IMD predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four to five days.

The number of people killed in rain-related incidents in Delhi rose to 11 today after bodies of three labourers were pulled from the rubble of a wall that collapsed at a construction site in the Vasant Vihar area here amid heavy rain on Friday.

Rain lashed parts of the city, including Rohini, Burari and central Delhi, on Saturday. The city’s primary weather station Safdarjung recorded 8.9 mm of rainfall and Lodhi Road 12.6 mm between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday.

The national capital recorded 228.1 mm of rainfall on Friday, the highest since 1936 for the month of June.

For the next seven days, Delhi will experience moderate to heavy rain, and an ‘orange alert’ has been issued for the next three days, the IMD said in its seven-day forecast.
