The School of Architecture and Planning (SoAP)
at Woxsen University, in collaboration with the International Association of Lighting
Designers (IALD), the Illuminating Engineers Society (IES), and the Lighting
Designers Association of India (LiDAI), successfully concluded LUMINESCENCE—a
groundbreaking three-day immersive lighting design workshop and networking event
held from March 28th to 30th, 2025.
The event brought together students, industry experts, and design professionals for
an intensive exploration of lighting concepts, applications, and innovations.
Participants engaged in expert-led sessions, interactive discussions, and practical
workshops that provided invaluable hands-on experience in the art, science, and
technology of lighting design.
One of the highlights of the event was the Lighting Exhibition on the evening of
March 29th, where students showcased their creative lighting installations. These
displays reflected innovative approaches to spatial illumination and demonstrated a
deep conceptual understanding of lighting’s role in architecture and design. The
exhibition concluded with a special networking dinner, fostering meaningful industry
connections.
The final day, March 30th, featured a Networking and Conclusion Event at T-Hub,
Hyderabad, where students, renowned lighting designers, architects, interior
designers, faculty members, and industry leaders convened. Chief Guest of the
morning, Mr. Ajay Mishra IAS, Hon. Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, T.S.
Branch and former Power Secretary of the Government of Telangana gave wonderful
insights into energy optimising methods of lighting, including harnessing natural
resources sensitively. He also deeply appreciated the installations made by the best
student teams the evening before, which were presented through visual narratives at
this function. This platform facilitated engaging discussions, the exchange of cutting-
edge ideas, and potential collaborations in the field of lighting design and innovation,
taking off from the brilliant presentations made by the lighting designers.
“LUMINESCENCE is more than just a workshop; it is a space for dialogue,
experimentation, and learning. Our aim is to empower participants with the
knowledge and skills to design with light, creating meaningful spatial experiences,”
said Sonia Gupta, Dean, School of Architecture and Planning, Woxsen University.
Woxsen University remains dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary learning through
initiatives like LUMINESCENCE, which aligns with the university’s Polaris Policy,
encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration and industry engagement. The event’s
resounding success further reinforces Woxsen’s commitment to excellence in design
education and innovation.
