The Indian cricket star set new records with a remarkable 135 runs off just 54 balls, achieving the second-fastest century and the highest score by an Indian player in T20 internationals. The hosts defeated a lackluster England team by 150 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, securing a 4-1 series victory in Mumbai on Sunday, February 2.
Abhishek has been training with Yuvraj for several years, during which Yuvraj has been quite harsh in his evaluations of the young player, even going so far as to criticize him on social media following instances of disappointing performances.
“Probably he (mentor and former India batter Yuvraj Singh) should be happy today. He’s always wanted me to bat into the 15th and 20th over and I’ve tried to implement that,” Abhishek said at the end of the game.
The Indian cricket star played aggressively, leading the team to a total of 247/9, marking their highest T20I score against England, who chose to field first. In response, Jos Buttler’s side was dismissed for a mere 97 runs in the 11th over.
There was no opposition from the tail end either. After dominating the bowlers, Abhishek came back to trouble the England batsmen, claiming two wickets (2/3) in his only over by getting rid of Brydon Carse (3) and Jamie Overton (1).
The night was dominated by one player, as Abhishek aggressively attacked the English bowling attack, delivering a performance of exceptional quality. His innings featured impressive shots against both pace and spin, securing his place in the record books.
“Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! That’s where I want to see you! 🔥 Proud of you,” said Yuvraj Singh to appreciate Abhishek’s fantastic knock.
