New Delhi: Babar Azam made history and registered his name in the record books during Pakistan’s league stage match against India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The opener got off to a steady start, scoring 23 runs off 26 balls before being dismissed. Playing with a positive approach, Babar looked in good touch until Hardik Pandya, in his second over, claimed his wicket, ending his innings.

Babar walked back for 23 after edging an outside-off delivery behind the wickets to KL Rahul. However, before his dismissal, he created history and achieved a huge record by completing 1000 runs in ICC ODI events during his knock.

Babar Azam made history by becoming the fastest Pakistan batsman to reach 1000 runs in ICC ODI events, achieving the milestone in just 24 innings. The previous record was held by Saeed Anwar, who took 25 innings, while Javed Miandad holds the third spot.

Babar Azam’s Journey in ICC Tournaments
Babar played his first ICC ODI event in 2017, being part of the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan team that defeated India in the final. He was also a key member of Pakistan’s 2019 ODI World Cup squad. However, he returned as captain for the 2024 T20 World Cup, where Pakistan once again failed to progress past the group stage.

Must-Win Game for Pakistan
A loss in this crucial match could all but eliminate Pakistan from the 2025 Champions Trophy, making the contest even more significant for the team’s survival in the tournament.
