Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently back in hospital again, getting treatment for a major medical ailment. Kambli was admitted at the Akruti Hospital in Thane this weekend and doctors have now revealed that the former Mumbai cricketer has ‘clots in his brain’.

The 52-year-old appeared in jovial spirits as his treatment continued in the hospital. In a viral video posted on Tuesday, Kambli seemed to eating his meals without any assistance and remembered his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar.

The former Mumbai southpaw revealed that he’ll never forget about cricket, no matter what his health condition is, since he remembers about all of his centuries and double centuries.

“I am feeling better now…I will never leave this (cricket) because I remember the number of centuries and double centuries I have hit,” Kambli said in a video posted by ANI news agency.

Kambli also sang the famous song ‘We are the champions’ showing the spirit to get better is still very much there. “I am thankful to Sachin Tendulkar as his blessings have always been with me,” Kambli said about Tendulkar.

Dr Vivek Trivedi, who has been treating Kambli at the Akruti Hospital, reveal that the former India star was complaining of urinary infection and cramps before being admitted on Saturday. Subsequent CT scans at the hospital revealed that there were ‘clots’ in his brain.

“It is because the doctor here that I am alive… All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I’ll give them…” said Vinod Kambli in a PTI news agency video.

Kambli’s health was being constantly monitored and the team will carry out additional medical examinations on Tuesday, the doctor said. “We always had a cricketing image of sir (Vinod Kambli) in our mind. So, it inspired us that sir needs us and so, the entire team decide to do something for sir. He keeps telling us about his good memories,” says a doctor at Akruti Hospital.

The Indian star cricketer turned out in 17 Tests between 1993 and 1995 and has the record of scoring back-to-back double hundreds against England and Zimbabwe in his third and fourth Test match. Kambli retired with an average of over 50 in Test cricket.

Earlier this month, a video of Kambli’s meeting with childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar had gone viral on social media. Kambli and Tendulkar were attending an event to celebrate the birth anniversary of their late coach Ramakant Achrekar.
