As per a report from TimesofIndia.com, Kohli has informed the BCCI of his plans to retire from the longest format, igniting a broad conversation.
In the midst of the ongoing buzz, Mohammad Kaif shared an emotional video on social media, urging Virat Kohli to take part in the upcoming five-Test series against England, set to start on June 20.
“Virat Kohli, Hindustan ka babbar sher, ab araam ke mood me hai. Retirement ki taraf unka zahen ja raha hai. Mujhe lagta he ki who England jaaye, wahan par point prove karke, high note pe khatam kare. Jo kaam T20 World Cup me kiya tha, unchai par khatam kare apna career,” said Kaif.

Mohammad Kaif’s appeal echoes the views of cricket greats such as Brian Lara and Navjot Singh Sidhu. Sidhu highlighted the importance of Kohli”s presence for the England series, stressing that Team India would greatly benefit from his experience. “His motive is noble, but the timing is not right. The pride and prestige of India are on the line.”
Lara, too, weighed in on social media, declaring, “Test cricket needs Virat!! He is NOT going to retire… he will average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career.”
Having scored 9,230 runs, including 30 hundreds, at an average of 46.85 in 123 Test matches since his debut in 2011, Virat Kohli continues to be a pillar of India’s Test batting lineup—especially crucial now with the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin.
