New Delhi: Babar Azam faced intense criticism after Pakistan’s early departure from the 2025 Champions Trophy. As the host nation, Pakistan was knocked out prematurely, suffering defeats to New Zealand and India, while their match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain.

Babar Azam faced harsh criticism for his sluggish half-century against New Zealand and had minimal impact in the match against India. He concluded the tournament with a mere 87 runs across two games.

Despite Pakistan’s underwhelming performance, ex-Pakistan coach and cricketer Mohsin Khan drew a daring comparison, equating Babar to Virat Kohli. Kohli’s decisive boundary against Pakistan also celebrated his 51st ODI century, emphasizing the clear difference in form between the two.

Speaking to Ary News, Mohsin said, “First of all, let me tell you one thing. Virat Kohli is nothing compared to Babar Azam; Kohli is zero. We are not talking here about who is a better player and we are talking about Pakistan cricket. Which has been destroyed. There is no planning, no strategies, no merit, and there is no accountability at all. There is no accountability.”

Virat Kohli has been outstanding this season, scoring 133 runs, including a century. This has sparked surprise over Mohsin’s comment.

As reported by Cricket Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched a thorough assessment of the team’s performance after their disappointing exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy. This review could result in significant changes to the squad, with prominent players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Naseem Shah potentially being dropped. While head coach Aaqib Javed has expressed that he does not intend to step down after the Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB may still decide to relieve him of his duties.
