New Delhi: Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has criticized former Pakistan captain Babar Azam regarding his English language proficiency, stating that the language barrier complicates communication with him. This is not the first instance where a current or former cricketer has raised concerns about Babar’s English communication skills. In response to a fan’s request for batting advice for Babar during a difficult phase in his career, Gibbs mentioned that Babar’s limited communication abilities can hinder others from effectively conveying their thoughts.

“Hey Gibbs, How about giving some suggestions to Babar Azam like you did back in 2021/2022 during PSL with Karachi Kings? I guess he won’t deny your interference this time,” the fan tweeted.

“Language is an issue with babar .. as you know his English isn’t great so it’s difficult to get points across to him,” Gibbs replied.

Language presents a challenge for Babar, as his proficiency in English is limited, making it hard to communicate ideas effectively to him.

Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal believes that having Babar open the innings is negatively impacting his confidence and disrupting the team’s balance.

Babar, who has been having difficulty finding his form, was unable to satisfy his need for runs and was dismissed after scoring just 10 runs off 23 balls. Kamran believes that Babar’s confidence and the overall team dynamics are being negatively affected by the current team composition.

“You are making Babar open. With this decision, the team combination is ruined, and so is Babar’s confidence,” Kamran said on his YouTube channel.

Babar has faced ongoing criticism for his lack of consistency across formats, from Tests to ODIs. Nonetheless, Pakistan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan argues that Babar’s struggles are a result of his own achievements.

“Babar has scored so many runs for Pakistan that we expect him to score a hundred in each game,” Rizwan was quoted by ESPNcricinfo as saying. “If we don’t judge him by those extreme expectations, you’ll find he’s still chipping in and contributing valuably for us.”

“As a captain, I expect a lot more of him too because of all he has done in the past,” Rizwan continued. “There is obviously an additional pressure because of it, and I’m sure he feels that too. But if you look at his innings in South Africa, he is still scoring runs. It’s not as if he has clear technical deficiencies, but he is still being tested. I am confident he’ll come out of it.”
