Kane Williamson survives after Brydon Carse clean bowls him, as the delivery turns out to be a no-ball in the second Test.
New Delhi: England pacer Brydon Carse delivered a stunning delivery to dismiss Kane Williamson in the second Test between New Zealand and England at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Friday, December 6. However, Williamson was given a reprieve as it was called a no-ball.
Carse’s flawless delivery sent one of New Zealand’s top batters, Kane Williamson, packing. However, Carse overstepped, with his landing foot not behind the crease, allowing Williamson to survive the dismissal.
The incident took place on the very first delivery of the 14th over in New Zealand’s first innings. Carse bowled a perfect length delivery around off stump that angled in, beating Williamson as he played it on the wrong line. The ball shattered the top of the off stump.

Brydon Carse began celebrating the wicket, but his joy was short-lived when umpire Adrian Holdstock raised his right arm to signal a no-ball, revealing that Carse had overstepped. At the time, Williamson was on 20 off 24 deliveries. With New Zealand having already lost a few wickets, his survival was a big relief for the hosts.
Brydon Carse redeemed himself with a stunning catch to dismiss Rachin Ravindra. Although he had been disappointed by bowling Kane Williamson out on a no-ball, Carse made up for it with this brilliant piece of fielding in the 18th over.
On the second last ball of the over, Chris Woakes delivered a short-of-a-length delivery that caused an inside edge off Ravindra’s bat, hitting his thigh pad. The ball veered towards square leg, where Brydon Carse, charging in from short-midwicket, dived full length and plucked the ball just inches off the ground to complete a stunning catch, sending Ravindra back to the pavilion.
Woakes claimed his first wicket of the innings, dismissing Ravindra for just three runs. This brought England’s score to 65 for 3, with just over half an hour left in the opening day of the second Test on December 6.
