New Delhi: In a heartfelt incident, young left-arm wrist spinner Vignesh Puthur showed his respect by bowing down to touch Nita Ambani‘s feet after being honored with the ‘Best Bowler’ award from the owner of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise. This humble act of appreciation occurred in the MI dressing room after the team lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their first match of the IPL 2025 season.

CSK aimed for a target of 156 and were on track despite the early loss of opener Rahul Tripathi in the second over. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra formed a rapid partnership of 67 runs in just 6.1 overs, with Gaikwad achieving his quickest IPL fifty in only 22 balls.

Vignesh Puthur, in his first IPL match, dramatically changed the course of the game with an outstanding bowling performance. At just 24 years old and without prior experience in state cricket, the spinner took the wickets of three established Indian internationals—Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda—causing CSK’s score to drop from 78/1 to 107/4 by the 12th over. He concluded his four-over spell with notable figures of 3 wickets for 32 runs.

CSK achieved a win with five balls remaining and four wickets in hand, largely due to Rachin Ravindra‘s impressive unbeaten score of 65 runs off 45 balls. However, Vignesh’s commendable performance became a significant topic of discussion.

Vignesh expressed his gratitude after being awarded the ‘Best Bowler’ by Nita Ambani, stating, “I appreciate the MI franchise for allowing me to participate in the match. I never imagined I would play alongside such talented players. I am very pleased. We had the potential to win as a team. Thank you, especially to our captain Surya bhai for his support, which helped ease my pressure. I also want to thank all my teammates for their encouragement.”

Vignesh has garnered significant admiration for the symbolic act of touching Nita Ambani’s feet as a sign of respect, highlighting not only his abilities but also his humble and respectful nature.
