MS Dhoni giving ‘bat treatment’ to Deepak Chahar after CSK’s four wicket victory over MI in IPL 2025

A video that has gained popularity online shows Dhoni enjoying a lighthearted moment during the post-match handshake with his former CSK teammate, who currently plays for MI.

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings commenced their IPL 2025 season on a high note by defeating Mumbai Indians by four wickets on Sunday, March 23. The match took place at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where CSK successfully chased down a target of 156 runs in 19.1 overs, losing six wickets in the process. New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who was chosen over Devon Conway for the match, emerged as the top scorer with an unbeaten 65 runs off 45 balls, while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 53 runs from 26 balls.

MI put up a strong challenge against CSK in the match, even though they set a suboptimal score. In the season’s initial clasico, held at CSK’s home venue, former CSK player Deepak Chahar showcased his all-round skills for the Mumbai Indians. Making his IPL debut for the team, the cricketer from Rajasthan scored 28 runs off just 15 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes, and also took one wicket for 18 runs in two overs.

Chahar emerged as a notable highlight for the Mumbai Indians in their match against CSK at Chepauk. Following the game, he, who shares a close friendship with MS Dhoni, was observed teasing his former captain. In a lighthearted moment during the post-match handshake between the players of both teams, Dhoni was seen playfully tapping Chahar with his bat.

In the game between CSK and MI, Dhoni batted in the eighth position for CSK but was unable to score any runs after facing two deliveries.

Dhoni, the player with the most appearances in IPL history, became just the third individual to participate in all 18 seasons of the lucrative league on Sunday. The captain of the five-time IPL champion team was retained by CSK for Rs 4 crore prior to the IPL 2025 mega auctions last year.

Although Dhoni did not score any runs while batting, he showcased his skills behind the stumps by successfully stumping MI captain Suryakumar Yadav in the first half of Match No. 3 of IPL 2025.
