New Delhi: Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, have officially signed Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman as a replacement for Allah Ghazanfar, who has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to injury. The 18-year-old Afghan spinner sustained a fracture in the L4 vertebra, specifically in the left pars interarticularis, sidelining him from both the upcoming IPL season and the ICC Champions Trophy.
Ghazanfar had sustained the injury during Afghanistan’s recent tour to Zimbabwe.
“Mumbai Indians wish Ghazanfar a speedy recovery and a warm welcome to Mujeeb into the #OneFamily,” MI said in a statement.
Mujeeb was one of the youngest ever players to have represented Afghanistan and made an instant impact, leading to an IPL debut at the age of 17.
Mujeeb has played over 300 T20 (international and domestic) games taking 330 wickets at an economy of around 6.5.
Mumbai Indians had signed the rising 18-year-old off-spinner Ghazanfar for Rs 4.80 crore in the IPL mega auction.

In the Lanka Premier League (LPL), he played 10 matches, taking eight wickets with an economy of 7.15, while his stint in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) saw him pick up six wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 8.65. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) brought him notable success, as he scalped 25 wickets in 22 matches at an impressive average of 18.40, including a four-wicket haul. His Caribbean Premier League (CPL) record is even more remarkable, with 26 wickets in 18 matches at an economy of 5.61, boasting a stellar bowling average of 14.46.
In The Hundred Men’s Competition, he managed six wickets in seven matches at an economy of 7.24. His time in the Vitality Blast was productive, with 26 wickets in 28 matches, maintaining an economy of 7.10. His IPL journey has seen him claim 19 wickets in 19 matches at an economy of 8.18, with his best figures of 3/27. Additionally, in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), he grabbed 12 wickets in nine matches at an economy of 8.21, including a four-wicket haul. Across these various T20 leagues, his ability to adapt and perform under different conditions highlights his prowess as a dependable bowler in the shortest format.
