India Under-19 opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was one of the shining lights in his team’s campaign at the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup 2024, where the Indians ended up as runners-up. Suryavanshi, who is just 13 years of age, scored back-to-back fifties against United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka Under-19 sides to live up to the hype that was built around him after the IPL 2025 Mega Auction last month.

Although Suryavanshi failed to fire in the U-19 Asia Cup 2024 final which India lost to Bangladesh, scoring only 9, but he did leave the critics and his fans stunned by his aggressive batting. After scoring only 1 in the opening match against Pakistan Under-19 side, the Bihar batter scored 76 against UAE and 67 against Sri Lanka in the semifinal match.

But there was no shortage of critics of Suryavanshi from across the border, as he was accused of age fraud by former Pakistan pacer Junaid Khan. The ex-Pakistan left-arm pacer shared a video on ‘X’ and questioned Suryavanshi’s age. “Can a 13-year-old kid really hit such a long six????” he captioned the video.

Junaid played in 22 Tests, 76 ODIs and 9 T20s for Pakistan in his career. He picked up 71 Test wickets, 110 ODI scalps and 8 T20 wickets in his career.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s father brushes aside allegations

Suryavanshi’s father, Sanjiv recently slammed the age-fraud claims and revealed that he had undergone the BCCI bone test few years back. “When he was 8 and half years old he first appeared for BCCI bone test. He has already played India U-19. We don’t fear anyone. He can again undergo age test,” Sanjiv told PTI.

Vaibhav is the youngest player to play Ranji Trophy, is likely to make his List ‘A’ debut soon as Bihar will be competing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has played one T20 for Bihar.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the youngest-ever player bought at IPL 2025 auction

Suryavanshi created history at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah last month when Rajasthan Royals bought him for Rs 1.1 crore. Apart from RR, Delhi Capitals were also keen to buy him and made their last bid for him worth Rs 1 crore.
