Pakistan’s women’s team has decided against travelling to India for this year’s ICC ODI World Cup.

New Delhi: Due to ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided that its women’s cricket team will not travel to India for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup. Instead, Pakistan’s matches will be played at a neutral venue, in accordance with a previously agreed-upon hybrid model. This model was established following a similar situation where India refused to send its team to Pakistan for the recent ICC Champions Trophy, resulting in matches being held in Dubai.

“Just like India didn’t play in Pakistan in the Champions Trophy and were allowed to play at a neutral venue, whatever venue is decided, we will play. When there is an agreement it has to be adhered to,” he said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman stated that the selection of a neutral venue for the tournament will be determined by India and the International Cricket Council, given their roles as hosts.

India will host the upcoming tournament, running from September 29th to October 26th. Australia is the reigning champion.

Naqvi commended the Pakistan women’s cricket team’s strong World Cup qualifying performance.

Pakistan secured a perfect record in the Lahore qualifiers, winning all five matches against Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, Thailand, and Bangladesh. This victory guarantees their place in the main tournament, joining already-qualified teams India, England, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

“The team showed how to take home advantage and play like a collective unit. I am happy that women’s cricket is doing well now,” he said.

A special reward will be given to the women’s team by the PCB to acknowledge their exceptional performance.

Naqvi expressed satisfaction with the PCB’s successful hosting of another ICC event, following the Champions Trophy.
