Rain plays spoilsport in Hyderabad as the SRH vs DC clash is abandoned, officially knocking Sunrisers Hyderabad out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
New Delhi: The highly anticipated clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was abandoned due to persistent rain, handing both teams a single point — a result that confirmed SRH’s elimination from the IPL 2025 playoff race.
The match had started with promise, especially for SRH, who had the Capitals on the ropes early after DC managed just 133 for 7 in their 20 overs. However, relentless showers that began midway through the evening session meant no further play was possible, despite the ground staff and Super Soppers working overtime. Ultimately, after multiple inspections and a lengthy delay, the umpires called off the match around 11:10 PM IST, much to the disappointment of the fans in Hyderabad.
DC’s Struggles with the Bat
Batting first, Delhi Capitals were rocked early by Pat Cummins, who once again led from the front. The Aussie pacer struck on the first ball of the match, removing Karun Nair for a golden duck. He followed it up with wickets of du Plessis and Abishek Porel in successive overs, finishing with an outstanding spell of 3 for 19 in four overs.
DC were reduced to 29 for 5 inside seven overs, with Axar Patel and KL Rahul falling cheaply. A mini recovery was staged by Tristan Stubbs, who top-scored with a fluent 41 off 36 balls, and contributions from Ashutosh Sharma (26 off 17) and Vipraj Nigam (18 off 17) helped DC limp to 133.
Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel provided excellent support with the ball, keeping the pressure tight through the middle overs.

Just as SRH were preparing for what seemed to be a straightforward chase, dark clouds rolled in. By 9:24 PM IST, the drizzle began and intensified soon after. Despite hopes for a five-over shootout, the outfield became unplayable, with puddles near the boundary and on the covers. Ground efforts continued till well past 11 PM, but with the cut-off for a five-over game approaching, the umpires had no choice but to call off the match.

The no-result dashed SRH’s playoff hopes, officially knocking them out of contention. DC, meanwhile, sneak into the “odd points” category, joining Punjab Kings with 13 points.
