New Delhi: Indian star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja etched his name into the record books on Sunday (April 20), becoming only the fifth batter from Chennai Super Kings to surpass 2000 runs in IPL history, joining the iconic MS Dhoni in that elite group. Batting at No. 4 for the Dhoni-led CSK side against Mumbai Indians in their ongoing IPL 2025 clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Jadeja crafted a composed knock. He scored 53 off 35 deliveries, striking four boundaries and clearing the ropes twice during his time in the middle.

He has now accumulated 2042 runs across 180 IPL appearances for the Chennai franchise.

The record for the most runs in IPL history for CSK belongs to MS Dhoni. The 43-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman has accumulated 4803 runs in 242 matches to date. He is followed by Suresh Raina with 4687 runs, Faf du Plessis at 2721, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has scored 2502 runs.

Jadeja was the leading run-scorer for CSK on Sunday, sharing a crucial 79-run stand for the fourth wicket with Shivam Dube, who contributed 50 off 32 deliveries. His fourth half-century in IPL for Chennai played a key role in helping the MS Dhoni-led team reach a total of 176 for 5 at the end of their 20 overs.

Before Jadeja guided CSK to a competitive total against Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians, it was 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre who caught everyone’s attention with his fearless batting. Making his IPL debut, the young Mumbai-born batter walked in at No. 3 and smashed 32 runs off just 15 deliveries, including four boundaries and two sixes. He got off the mark with a single on his first ball against Ashwani Kumar and followed it up by taking the 24-year-old Punjab pacer to the cleaners, striking a four and back-to-back sixes on the next three deliveries.

Mhatre built a 41-run partnership for the second wicket with Shaik Rasheed, who contributed 19 off 20 balls. The promising youngster, who was brought into the CSK squad earlier this week as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, was eventually dismissed by Deepak Chahar on the fifth delivery of the seventh over.
