Kohli later had an animated conversation with Ravindra Jadeja about the dismissal.

After India won the toss and opted to bat first, openers Rohit Sharma (15) and Shubman Gill (2) were dismissed early, leaving the team in a tough spot. Kohli fell for just 11 runs, as India lost three wickets in the powerplay.

Kohli’s dismissal will be remembered for Phillips’ spectacular catch at point. On the fourth ball of the 7th over, Kohli attempted to drive a Matt Henry delivery, only for Phillips to pull off an astonishing one-handed grab while diving full-stretch to his right.

Later, a broadcast image from the Indian dressing room showed Kohli engaging in a conversation with Jadeja about the catch. The Indian all-rounder, known for his exceptional fielding skills, seemed to give a lively and animated explanation of the catch to the former captain.

In the match, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel steadied the innings after the early dismissals of the top order. The pair formed a solid fourth-wicket partnership of 98 runs off 136 balls, providing a foundation for a competitive total. Axar was dismissed after scoring 42 off 60 balls, while Shreyas reached his fourth half-century in the last six innings, contributing 79 off 98 balls.

Despite their efforts, the New Zealand bowlers maintained control, and regular wickets fell throughout. KL Rahul added 23 runs off 29 balls.
