This top cricketer has played international cricket for over 18 years now and has amassed a wealth of over Rs 600 crore over the years.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction witnessed plenty of experienced and world-class players going unsold. Whether it was likes of David Warner and Daryl Mitchell or even Prithvi Shaw from India, the list of ‘unsold’ players was a surprising one. Among those unsold cricketers, there was one name who has played the sport for over 18 years now at the international level and has amassed a massive net worth of over Rs 600 crore and he’s not from India.
We are talking about legendary Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who was one of those top cricketers who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah last month. Shakib had begun his IPL journey back in 2011 with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and had put his name for the mega auction this year at a base price of Rs 1 crore but there were no bidders for him.
According to media reports, Shakib’s current net worth is about 800 crore taka which translates of approximately Rs 600 crore in Indian currency. The former Bangladesh captain has massive deals with Pepsico, Boost and Grameenphone companies back home.
Shakib has scored 793 runs and taken 63 wickets in his 71-game IPL career till date. His best season came with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018 where he scored 238 runs and took 14 wickets in 17 games.
PSL franchises have contacted many top players who remained unsold in the IPL, as per Qadir Khawaja 🇵🇰🇮🇳🤯

He had joined KKR in 2011 for Rs 1.9 crores in 2011. He later moved to SRH for a fee of Rs 2 crore before rejoining KKR in 2021 for Rs 3.2 crore.
He was instrumental in two of KKR’s title-winning campaigns in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of current India head coach Gautam Gambhir. He has represented two franchises – Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad in his long 12-year IPL career so far.
However, in spite of this, he still didn’t find any bidder because he has decided to retire from Tests and T20I cricket earlier this year and he’ll turn 38 in March next year by the time IPL 2025 season gets underway. He also had a poor season in T20I cricket in 2024 before his retirement, averaging only 16 across 12 matches.
Shakib has also decided to skip the on-going ODI series between Bangladesh and West Indies in the Caribbean. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed has said that the senior all-rounder was not ‘in a mental state to play for the country’. Shakib has not played international cricket since his side’s 2-0 defeat to India in October this year.
But Shakib still has a slim chance of playing in IPL 2025 if he is picked as a replacement of one of the injured players during or ahead of the next season.
