New Delhi: Shubman Gill had an impressive performance in the recent ODI series against England, where India secured a 3-0 victory over the team led by Jos Buttler. Gill scored two half-centuries and a century, making him the highest run-scorer of the series. His consistent performance in ODIs has been beneficial for India, especially with the Champions Trophy approaching, providing a boost for the squad captained by Rohit Sharma.

Over his 50 ODIs for India, Gill has accumulated 2,587 runs, including seven centuries, one of which is a double century, and 15 half-centuries, maintaining an average exceeding 60. In the third ODI, he became the fastest player to achieve 2,500 runs in ODIs, breaking Hashim Amla’s previous record of 53 innings. Due to his outstanding form, Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy and is considered a potential successor to Rohit Sharma as ODI captain.

Shubman Gill is poised to chase a significant record during the ICC Champions Trophy. He needs only 413 runs to become the fastest player to achieve 3000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The current record is held by Hashim Amla, who accomplished this feat in his 57th innings. Gill has six innings available to surpass the South African legend. Considering Gill’s current performance, he has a strong chance of breaking the record during the Champions Trophy, where India is set to play at least three matches, and potentially five if they advance to the final.

India is in Group A, which includes Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Their tournament will begin with a match against Bangladesh on February 20. A highly anticipated game against Pakistan is scheduled for February 23, and India will face New Zealand on March 2. All of India’s matches will be held at the Dubai International Stadium.
