Suryakumar Yadav achieves BIG feat, becomes 8th MI player to…

New Delhi: Suryakumar Yadav added another feather to his already illustrious cap by completing a century of appearances for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The stylish right-handed batter reached this special milestone during Mumbai’s match against Lucknow Super Giants on Friday in the 2025 season. With regular skipper Hardik Pandya unavailable, Suryakumar led the side in their opening fixture and now has yet another reason to celebrate—becoming just the eighth player to play 100 games for the five-time champions.

He joins a prestigious list of MI legends including Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Ambati Rayudu. To commemorate the occasion, the franchise presented Suryakumar with a special customized jersey before the match—an emotional tribute to a player who has been central to Mumbai’s success over the years.

A Key Figure in Mumbai’s Batting Line-Up

A two-time IPL champion with MI in 2019 and 2020, Suryakumar has been one of the most consistent batters for the team. He is one of only three players to score over 3000 runs for the franchise in IPL history. His average of 35.53 and a blistering strike rate of 148.91 rank second-best among MI’s top 10 all-time run scorers—highlighting his dominance in both consistency and aggression.

Suryakumar’s two IPL centuries are the joint-most for MI, equaling Rohit Sharma. In addition, he is the only other batter apart from Rohit to register 25 fifty-plus scores for the franchise. Since his return to Mumbai Indians in 2018, he has been their leading run scorer and the most reliable contributor with the bat across all positions from opening to the middle order.

Power and Consistency: Hallmarks of SKY’s Game

His tally of 116 sixes for MI is only behind Kieron Pollard and Rohit Sharma, further proving his big-hitting prowess. Notably, Suryakumar is also the only Indian, apart from Sachin Tendulkar, to score over 500 runs in multiple IPL seasons for Mumbai Indians—605 in 2023 and 512 in 2018.

From a dependable run machine to now a leader, Suryakumar Yadav’s journey with Mumbai Indians continues to be nothing short of iconic.
