Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli stays in an apartment in Bandra West Reclamation area in Mumbai since 2010 but hadn’t paid maintenance for many years and even defaulted on home loan.
Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli made a rare public appearance recently and his interaction with childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar soon went viral on social media. Kambli and Tendulkar were attending a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of their late coach Ramakant Achrekar last week.
Kambli looked a shadow of his former self and very pale for a 52-year-old man which made many of his fans on social media quite emotional. Former India cricketers like Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar have now come forward and promised to help Kambli get on his feet.
The former Mumbai southpaw’s downfall is pretty shocking as from a net worth of around Rs 12-13 crore a few years back, Kambli is only surviving on the meagre Rs 30,000 pension that he receives every month from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
However, he can rely on his apartment in Jewel Tower Complex in Bandra West Reclamation area in Mumbai. According to reports, the apartment is around 1600 square feet and by current value of area in the locality should be worth around Rs 8 crore approximately.

Kambli’s apartment is actually part of the Jewel Cooperative Society, which was formed by 10 Mumbai cricketers and one Kabaddi player in 2007, according to a tabloid report. Kambli and the others moved into this apartment back in 2010.
Apart from Kambli, others in this Co-operative society were Indian cricketers like Ajit Agarkar, Samir Dighe, Ajinkya Rahane, Ramesh Powar, Sairaj Bahutule, Paras Mhambrey and Abey Kuruvilla. But according to former Mumbai cricketer Raju Kulkarni, Kambli owed maintenance dues over Rs 10 lakh long back.
The report had also added that Kambli had about 15 non-cognisable cases against him in Bandra police station. This was due to non-payment of maintenance dues, which Kambli hadn’t paid since he moved into the apartment.
News had also emerged that Kambli and his second Andrea Hewitt had also defaulted on the house loan of their apartment apart from a vehicle loan. After multiple calls, DNS Bank who had given the home loan to Kambli had published an ad in the newspaper declaring Kambli and his wife as the defaulters.
Kambli had bought this apartment for Rs 2 crore and taken home loan from DNS Bank of around Rs 55 lakh. However, the cricketer continues to reside in this apartment although his second wife Andrea Hewitt and two children – Jesus and Johana – have moved out after a case of domestic violence was filed against Kambli back in 2023.
