Virat Kohli is on the verge of making history in the Champions Trophy, needing only 173 runs to do so. He made his debut in the tournament in 2009 and led India to the final in 2017. Additionally, he was instrumental in India’s victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy.

New Delhi: Virat Kohli will be the center of attention as India begins their 2025 Champions Trophy journey against Bangladesh on February 20. The ex-captain of India regained his form in the third ODI against England, where he scored a half-century. Indian supporters are optimistic that Kohli will maintain his performance and achieve significant runs during the ICC tournament.

Virat is set to participate in his fourth Champions Trophy and is only 173 runs shy of making history. Having accumulated 529 runs across 13 matches, he ranks as India’s fourth-highest run-scorer in this ICC tournament. If he reaches the target, he will become the Indian batsman with the highest number of runs in the Champions Trophy.

Shikhar Dhawan currently leads the prestigious ranking, having accumulated 701 runs in 10 matches during two editions of the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2017. He was the top run-scorer in both tournaments. India emerged victorious in the 2013 Champions Trophy and reached the final in 2017.

Sourav Ganguly is in second place with a total of 665 runs. Under his captaincy, India was defeated by New Zealand in the final of the 2000 Champions Trophy, and in 2002, they shared the Champions Trophy with Sri Lanka due to both finals being canceled.

Virat, who began his Champions Trophy career in 2009, has accumulated 529 runs over 12 innings, which features 5 half-centuries. He holds an impressive average of 88.16 and has struck 53 boundaries. India is set to participate in a minimum of 3 matches in the 2025 Champions Trophy, providing Virat an opportunity to ascend to the top position in the prestigious rankings.

India will begin their 2025 Champions Trophy journey with a match against Bangladesh on February 20. Their second match will be against their long-time rivals, Pakistan, on February 23. India will conclude the league stage with a game against New Zealand on March 2.

If India secures a spot in the semi-finals, their knockout match is set for March 4. The Men in Blue are planned to compete in their league stage games, as well as the semi-final and final (if they advance), in Dubai.
