New Delhi: Security breaches by fans during the Indian Premier League (IPL) are not uncommon, as one such individual managed to invade the field at Eden Gardens on Saturday during the IPL 2025 opener between Kolkata Knight Riders, the defending champions and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
The incident occurred shortly after Virat Kohli scored his fifty in the 13th over of RCB’s chase. RCB, chasing a modest target of 175, got off to an explosive start with former KKR opener Phil Salt taking charge, dominating the bowlers from his former team.
At the other end, Virat Kohli found his rhythm, playing a series of stunning shots from the cricketing repertoire to reach his half-century off 30 balls. As Kohli raised his bat in acknowledgement to the cheering crowd, a fan breached the field and rushed toward the star batter, dropping to the ground at his feet.

Earlier, Virat Kohli became only the third batter in IPL history, following Rohit Sharma (1070) and David Warner (1093), to surpass 1000 runs against KKR. Kohli now has 1020 runs against the three-time IPL champions.
KKR also became the fourth team in the IPL against which Kohli has accumulated over 1000 runs. The other teams are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings.
