New Delhi: Virat Kohli is set to make history and reach a significant milestone when he steps onto the field for India in their final league-stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Men in Blue will take on New Zealand on Sunday (March 2). With both teams already securing a place in the semi-finals, the match holds no impact on qualification. However, the winner will claim the top spot in the points table.

From Group B, Australia and South Africa have secured their spots in the semi-finals, while England has been eliminated from the tournament. India is set to compete in the first semi-final on March 4.

Virat Kohli set to create world record
Virat Kohli is on the verge of creating history by becoming the first cricketer to play 300 ODIs, 100 Tests, and 100 T20Is. So far, he has featured in 299 ODIs, 123 Tests, and 125 T20Is. Kohli made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2008 and solidified his place in the Indian playing XI by 2010, establishing himself as one of the game’s greatest players.

Virat Kohli stepped into India’s leadership group in 2012 and made his ODI captaincy debut in 2013. In January 2017, he succeeded MS Dhoni as India’s white-ball captain. Kohli made his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011, marking the beginning of a stellar international career.

After his maiden Test series, Virat Kohli was dropped and did not get an immediate opportunity upon his return. However, his impressive performances in the final two Tests of the 2011/12 Australia tour cemented his place in the playing XI. Kohli took over as India’s Test captain in the 2014/15 season and went on to become the nation’s most successful Test skipper, securing 40 wins from 68 matches.

Renowned for his dominance in ODIs, Kohli holds the record as the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in the format. He recently became the quickest to score 14,000 ODI runs and currently has 14,085 runs in 299 ODIs, including 51 centuries.
