Shan Masood-led Pakistan will take on Temba Bavuma’s South Africa in the Boxing Day Test in the first game of the two-match series at the SuperSport Park in Centurion from Thursday, December 26.
After whitewashing South Africa for the first time in their ODI history at home, Pakistan will be full of confidence as they take on the Proteas in the Boxing Day Test – the first in the two-match Test series – at the SuperSport Park in Centurion from Thursday. Pakistan have won back-to-back Tests against England at home after being whitewashed by Bangladesh earlier this year.
South Africa are also coming into the series with successive wins in their last two Tests against Sri Lanka at home. Temba Bavuma’s side are currently on top of the World Test Championships (WTC) points table and in good position to qualify for the final at Lord’s next year.
For Shan Masood’s side, former captain Babar Azam returns to Test cricket after being dropped for the last two Tests against England at home. Babar has been in fine form with a couple of fine fifties in the ODI matches against SA in the lead up to this game.
Pakistan, though, have not won a Test match in South Africa in the last 18 years and haven’t won a Test outside Asia since beating West Indies in 2021. They can have an all-pace attack with Mohammad Abbas, Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shahzad to partner Naseem Shah with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha’s spin for back-up.
South Africa, on the other hand, are set to hand a debut to Corbin Bosch to partner Kagiso Rabada, Dane Paterson and Marco Jansen.
