When and where to watch

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to return to the international stage after a gap of almost 8 years. The last edition back in 2017 was won by Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Pakistan team in the United Kingdom.

Defending champions Pakistan are also the hosts of the ICC event, which is being organised with a ‘hybrid’ model in Pakistan and Dubai. All of Team India’s matches are being organised in Dubai, along with one semifinal and possibly the final (if India qualifies) while the remaining games will be held in Pakistan across Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The National Stadium in Karachi will host the opening game of the tournament with Mohammad Rizwan’s Pakistan taking on former winners New Zealand in match No. 1. The hosts are coming into the clash on the back of successive losses at the hands of New Zealand in the mini tri-series held ahead of he ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The opening clash itself is an intriguing one — a mercurial Pakistan, unpredictable and brimming with talent, against a New Zealand side defined by structure and discipline. But the showpiece event of the tournament will undoubtedly be on February 23, when India faces Pakistan. This much-anticipated encounter will, as always, bring waves of nostalgia, heightened emotions, political posturing, and an all-out social media frenzy.

That marquee showdown will take place in Dubai, as India has remained firm in its decision not to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. Pakistan will be boosted by the return of pacer Haris Rauf to the side, who has recovered from side-strain he suffered in the opening game of the tri-series against New Zealand.

The Black Caps have their own injury concerns with pacer Lockie Ferguson ruled out of the tournament along with Ben Sears. Ferguson’s replacement Kyle Jamieson hasn’t reached Karachi in time and will not be available for selection for the opening game.
