PM Modi is also expected to interact with people displaced by the Meitei-Kuki conflict and still living in relief camps.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Manipur on Saturday, September 13. This will be his first visit to the state since ethnic violence broke out two years ago, Manipur Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said in Imphal. The visit comes after repeated criticism from the opposition for not going to Manipur since the clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities began in May 2023. The violence has left more than 260 people dead and forced thousands to leave their homes.
During the trip, PM Modi will launch and lay the foundation for projects worth over Rs. 8,000 crore. In Churachandpur, a Kuki-majority area, he will lay foundation stones for development works worth Rs. 7,300 crore. In Imphal, where the Meitei community is in majority, he will inaugurate infrastructure projects worth Rs. 1,200 crore.
He will also visit Mizoram, where he is set to inaugurate the Bairabi–Sairang railway line project.

Manipur decked up to welcome PM Modi
On Thursday evening, the Manipur government put up a big billboard announcing Prime Minister Modi’s programmes at Peace Ground in Churachandpur and Kangla Fort in Imphal, scheduled for Saturday.
The government also released an advisory for people attending the “VVIP programme” at Peace Ground. It asked the public not to carry items like keys, pens, water bottles, bags, handkerchiefs, umbrellas, lighters, matchboxes, cloth pieces, sharp objects or any kind of weapon.
Another notice, without mentioning the Prime Minister directly, requested that children below 12 years and people who are unwell should not be brought to the event.
In preparation for the visit, air guns have already been banned in Churachandpur district. Security measures have also been tightened in both Imphal and Churachandpur, officials confirmed.
