In a recent interview, he shared unheard details about Karisma and Sunjay’s relationship.
Karisma Kapoor was treated as a ‘trophy wife’
The director said that Karisma wanted to be a housewife and establish her own identity, but her situation at home had become like that of a “trophy wife”, someone kept merely for display. Sunil Darshan shared that Karisma was a friend of Sunjay’s sister, but she had never shown any interest in her brother. He said, “They were friends; they were never a couple. We went to Delhi many times, but we never saw them as a couple. Some things are destined. This was a bad turn in her life. She wanted to be a housewife, but she ended up just a puppet. She had seen the world, done everything. She didn’t want to play golf on Saturday evenings, she wanted to spend time with her family at home. She was a homely girl. This is very sad. I feel very sorry for her.”
What led to Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur’s divorce?
After a lot of accusations on one another, Karisma and Sunjay were granted divorce in 2016. During the divorce proceedings, Sunjay and Karisma did a lot of mudslingings and had shared shocking revelations about their marriage. In her divorce plea, Karisma had accused Sunjay of abusing her physically.
